Main purpose of the department
The Economic Development section’s aims and objectives are to promote local economic development by devising strategies that are aimed at enhancing business growth, retaining, and attracting investment and developing tourism. As part of the Local Economic Development and Tourism growth and development Strategies.
- Translate Council vision in to policies, strategies and programmes aimed at developing the economy and livelihood of residents
- Implement policies, strategies and programmes to create an enabling environment for the most vulnerable groups in our community
- Oversee preparation of departmental projects and monitor implementation thereof.
EDS is used to be called Community Development Services Department where the main focus was to provide of housing/ shelter to the community. Off later, the focus was revised and changed to economic development with the aim to:
- Create employment
- Promote local Economic Development
- Enhancing Business Growth
- Retaining and attracting investment and developing tourism
- Development of infrastructures and business facilities
- SME Development through public partnership
