Solid Waste Department

The department provides public and environmental health services essential for maintaining a safe and healthy living environment within the community. Surveillance is crucial in monitoring pollution and managing health involving assessment of health risks, preventing diseases, and controlling environmental pollution. The department makes every effort to involve local stakeholders and, utilizing a community-engaged approach, health initiatives are tailored to meet specific needs, promoting a healthier environment.

Solid Waste Management Services

The solid waste management section ensures proper disposal of solid and hazardous waste materials through services such as weekly refuse collection, street cleaning, litter picking, sidewalk cleaning, bulk refuse removal, material recovery at landfills, community cleanup campaigns, and stakeholder engagement.

Food Safety and Hygiene

The program encompasses a range of practices aimed at ensuring the safe handling, preparation, and consumption of food within the community. These practices include maintaining a healthy food supply chain, implementing food safety awareness programs, ensuring personal hygiene for food handlers, preventing spoilage, and understanding date labels. Regular assessments and quality assurance ensure compliance with hygiene standards and maintain the health and well-being of individuals who consume food.

Animal Control

The program ensures public safety, animal welfare, and community well-being as well as promoting responsible pet ownership. The section is responsible for enforcing local ordinances, animal registration, managing stray and lost dogs, and addressing public health and safety concerns in collaboration with law enforcement and local animal welfare organizations.

Public Hygiene and Sanitation Activities in Informal Settlements

The department maintains a holistic approach to sanitation, considering the availability of facilities, their condition, and community needs. This includes assessing the facility's cleanliness, functionality, privacy, maintenance, and sanitation practices to ensure effective sanitation practices.

School Health Promotion

The program strives to create a healthy environment for students, educators, and the community by engaging stakeholders. Providing health education and implementing health services and outreach programs are key to promoting health.

Urban Agriculture Promotion

Urban agriculture promotion involves continuous community engagement, education, and infrastructure development to promote food security and sustainability by utilizing available spaces. UAP addresses local food needs, reduces dependence on external sources, and promotes sustainable practices. It also encourages biodiversity, health benefits, economic opportunities, and research on urban agriculture impact.

Business Registration

Business registration is crucial for all business establishments, as it ensures compliance with legal requirements and relevant ordinances. A Certificate of Fitness/Acceptability (COA) is essential for providing information on the type of business enterprise, processes, and other relevant details.

Occupational Health and Safety

Occupational Health and Safety programs maintain the well-being of employees, contractors, and customers of the municipality by ensuring a safe working environment. These programs identify and manage risks, comply with legislative requirements, provide training on work-related risks, continuously evaluate health and safety programs, and actively participate in accident prevention efforts.
