The Mayor of Swakopmund is at the centre of the system of governance. The Mayor takes collective decisions in consultation with Councillors, the Chief Executive Officer, departmental heads, citizens, staff, and other stakeholders.
His Worship the Mayor
His Worship Goraseb, who serves as the Mayor, represents the Landless People Movement Party. He holds an MBA in Public Administration, a Bachelor of Commerce with a focus on ICT and Project Management, along with Postgraduate qualifications in Programme Management. He has honed his expertise in corporate governance, ICT, and strategic implementation. Among his significant achievements is the senior citizen debt relief initiative, which saw N$7 million written off, benefiting nearly 300 senior citizens in Swakopmund. He also founded the Swakopmund Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (SAADA), a corporate social responsibility program dedicated to combating drug and substance abuse in the community and has played a key role in crafting and implementing essential policies that address contemporary needs.
