The Engineering and Town Planning department is responsible for the provision and maintenance of a range of essential infrastructure and services to uplift the standard of living to the residents of Swakopmund. The main focus areas are water, sewerage-, purified effluent reticulation, streets, civil engineering and mechanical services, town planning, architectural, building control, parks & gardens, and plant and labor services.

The Engineering & Town Planning Department comprises the following Projects (Sections):

Building Control and Design Office

This Section is responsible for monitoring, supervising, and coordinating building activities of Council and private developments within the Municipal boundaries.

The Town Planning Division initiates future urban developments and manages developmental activities including land use and cadastral changes within the Scheme Area and the municipal’s area of jurisdiction in accordance with the Swakopmund Zoning Scheme provisions

This Section oversees the maintenance of Council’s road infrastructure, public buildings, vehicle fleet, and parks.
