Economic Development

The Sport and Recreation section aims to promote recreation and sports development by devising strategies that are aimed at enhancing sports growth, retaining, and attracting different sporting and recreational activities to Swakopmund.

Mission Statement

The Sport and Recreation mission is to improve community services and facilities with regard to safety, recreation, and public health.

Major Objectives

To promote sport and recreation through the co-ordination of programs and services for the benefit of the community and to manage all sport and recreational facilities.

Standard procedures for booking halls and stadiums:
  • Client contacts the booking officer to arrange for space available
  • Booking officer issues application form for the processing of payment which is done at the cash hall
  • Client returns with the receipt to the booking officer for the entry of booking in the innkeeper system
  • Any cancellation of the booking to be done in writing or in person where the client signs for it.

Pre and post inspection:
  • The client meets the security guard on duty at the venue for pre-inspection of the venue
  • Post inspection is done after the event
  • Client advised on the findings of the inspection by the security guard on duty
  • Discrepancies/ breakages/ incidences recorded and post inspection form signed off by the two parties
  • In case of damage, cost of damage communicated to the client and settlement arranged

Direct deposit & Electronic funds transfer
  • Client gets the Municipal banking details from the booking officer
  • Client deposits or transfer correct amounts into the Municipality banking account
  • Proof payment sent to the booking officer via email or hand deliver
  • Booking confirmed and confirmation send back to the client

Refundable deposit:
  • Client returns original receipts to the booking officer
  • Pre and post inspection form attached to the application
  • Banking confirmation letter attached
  • Deposit paid only when no item is missing/damaged and when inspection is duly signed
  • In case of missing/damaged items facility not properly cleaned – finance department instructed accordingly by Economic Development Services Department
