YOUTH DEVELOPMENT OFFICE

The section aims to improve the overall socio-economic well-being of young people by creating enabling environment for youth employment and increased youth participation in local economic development activities within Swakopmund.

  1. Policy, Development, Implementation and Monitoring

The Swakopmund Youth Development Policy provides direction to youth focused interventions and catalyse youth development as a priority for the Swakopmund Municipality.

    • Annual career fairs in conjuctions with the Ministry of Education, Art and Culture

    • Information Corner accommodated in the Mondesa library
      • Daily newspapers, Bursary application forms, Available vacancies, Projects
  • Link school learners with career counsellors & educational psychologist
    • Referral system for career choices and identification of talents
  • PROMOTE SELF-EMPLOYMENT & ENTERPRENEURSHIP
  • Youth Entrepreneurship Training Program
    • Tackle the scourge of unemployment and encourage youth to start business
    • Training content: introduction to entrepreneurship, feasibility studies, costing , pricing and profitability Analysis, Basic Accounting Principles, business planning and local available support services
    • Avail business kiosks for local youth (see site picture)
  • Mentorship program
    • Quarterly meetings and site visits to revise goals and develop skills and competencies
    • Identify mentors within the network and match with youth
  • CONDUCT JOB PREPARATION & JOB SEARCH ACTIVITIES
  • Conduct training on job readiness skills, job search strategies, compiling CV and prepare and coach for job interview
  • Engage employers on existing employment opportunities
  • Advises job seekers on employment requirements and on terms and conditions of employment
  • Tailor made sessions for employed youth to maintain a job and positive attitude
