OVERVIEW OF PARKS AND GARDENS

Swakopmund is well known for its beautiful gardens, but gardens are not just there for beautification and recreation.  Gardens can be a place where kids and people can relax. Gardens also reduce noise and air pollution, act as windbreakers and dust filters. It provides shade on a hot desert climate; it prevents soil erosion and is educational to human. Several bird species nest and breed in our trees and palms among others are the prominent Guinee-fowl population that uses our thick vegetation to breed every year.

The Municipality Nursery is part of the Parks and Garden section that is responsible for propagating and producing plants, trees etc. for the various gardens in our town. We also sell a variety of plant species to the public at affordable prices and offer deliveries in town at a minimum price. The nursery also produces its own organic compost that is collected from the garden around town. All leaves, grass clippings and manure from our sewerage works are also milled to enrich the poor soil in the coast with much needed minerals.
